June Noland is a testament to the power of love, care, and community. As one of the longest-standing residents at TLC, June has called Moore Residence her home for the past 43 years, having arrived when she was just 13 years old. Born in Asheville, North Carolina, June transitioned to TLC from her family’s home in western North Carolina after her mother’s cancer diagnosis made it difficult for her to continue providing care. At the time, doctors were unsure how long June would live, with early predictions suggesting she wouldn’t survive past age 10 due to her disabilities.

Despite these early challenges, June has defied the odds. Today, she continues to thrive, thanks to the compassionate care and support she receives at TLC. Her brother David, who is now her guardian following the passing of their parents, reflects on the journey their family has been through together. He remembers the uncertainty surrounding June’s health when she was born—her mother’s intuition that something wasn’t quite right, and the absence of a clear diagnosis. Yet, through the advances in medical care and the dedicated attention at TLC, June’s quality of life has flourished.

David recalls fond memories from their childhood, particularly of June scooting around the house, playing with their miniature poodle and her beloved Kermit the Frog toy. While these moments are tender reminders of their family bond, David is especially thankful for the sense of security and peace of mind he feels knowing June is so well cared for at TLC. He highlights the attentive and loving staff, who frequently communicate with him about June’s well-being. Whether through phone calls, texts, or emails, the caregivers at TLC keep him connected to her life, ensuring he’s always informed and involved.

The Noland family’s connection to TLC runs deep. David’s father, Bill Noland, served on the TLC board for 22 years, from 1980 to 2002, and was an advocate for children in need. Bill’s community-oriented spirit, especially his commitment to TLC, left a lasting legacy that continues to impact June and countless other residents. As David reflects on his father’s dedication, he shares how proud Bill would be to see the continued progress and growth of TLC, especially with the upcoming renovations to the ICF homes, including Moore Residence.

For June, this new space will be a fresh chapter in the place she’s called home for over four decades. David is excited about the positive impact it will have on her life, knowing that after so many years, June will enjoy a beautifully renovated environment that reflects the care and love she has always received.

June’s story is not just about longevity—it’s about thriving in the face of adversity, the power of family, and the exceptional care that TLC provides. It is a story of a woman whose happiness shines through each day, made possible by the dedicated staff and the support of her loved ones. In celebrating June Noland, we also celebrate the mission of TLC: to empower individuals of all abilities to live their fullest life, surrounded by community, compassion, and respect.
